Brackets & Gadgets
Early Model Creme Colored Plastic/Later Model Metal with Black Crinkle CTOOM Bracket that allows flash attachment to M series cameras. Swivels 180 degrees for easy composition. Early models were made from plastic, the later model shown here is all metal. The best thing about this bracket is the the relocation of the tripod socket to the middle of the camera base. There are third party brackets available that attach to the base of the M cameras that relocate the tripod socket to the middle, but this bracket will do the same thing and allow attachment of a flash unit as well.
SDOOG - The coolest Leica accessory ever invented. Also one of the rarest, why? you ask, because people that have these will never part with them, for any price. The best thing to do is find out who has one and coax them to leave it to you in their Last Will when they pass on. This accessory allows rapid attachment to a any tripod or monopod. The top piece screws into the tripod socket on the camera and the bottom piece screws onto the tripod/monopod device. Squeeze the shaft in the middle and the camera snaps firmly into place. Small, easy to use and easy to carry. I have two of them, but I don't plan on passing them on for at least another 50 years, so you'll have to find your own. Got one you don't want? Sell it to me!
OSBLO telescope convertor. Attach this to your 50 or 90mm Leica screw mount lens and presto, instant spotting scope. Also works as a dustcap. Magnification with the 50mm is 3.5x and 6x with the 90mm. Neat Gadget.
Benser Baseplate (shown mounted on Leica M4 with 2 additional lenses) This was an after market accessory made by Benser of West Germany and sold by Leitz New York in 1964-1969. The benser baseplate fits over the existing baseplate of any Leica M camera by screwing into the existing tripod socket. Two lenses can bayonet mount to the bottom fo the plate once in place. As akward as it might look, it actually works quite well. The camera feels well balanced and the lenses act as a nice firm grip for the camera enabling you to actually hold the camera more firmly without shake. The real convenience comes in the ability to carry all three major focal length lenses at once. A good combination might be 35/50/90mm or 21/24/35mm or any combination that shoots your style of shooting best. These are rather scarce and if you come accross one, I would recommend that you try it out. Personally, I like it, and consider it a valuable accessory to any Leica photographer or Collector.
