Leica M6 Specifications

Leica M6 Titanium with 35mm Summicron F2 Aspherical Lens

Leica M6 TTL

The Leica M6 is the previous model M series camera from Leica's current M7 & MP.  A great camera with LED metering that is easy to use.   A .85 viewfinder model is also available that omits the framelines for the 28mm lens, but has a higher magnification for users that prefer larger framelines.  Some say this lends itself to more accurate focusing.  I have used both, and in practice I can focus both very accurately with a 50mm F1 Noctilux at F1, so it makes no difference to me.  The larger framelines are a good thing making composition easier.  Personally I believe that the framelines for the 28mm outweigh the advantages of the higher magnification viewfinder of the .85 unless you can imagine the complete viewfinder as being your 28mm framelines on the .85.  If you have a lot of money, just get both and be done with it.  The M6 is also now available in a .58 viewfinder version that provides greater eye relief for people that wear eyeglasses.

Leica M6

1st Production Run - Very Early Leitz Wetzlar model M6

The earliest models of this M6 had the 'Leitz' logo on the front of the camera.  In later production, the logo was replaced with the 'Leica' logo.  The earliest M6's were believed to be better built.  Some of the parts that are now plastic, were ofmetal on the early M6's.

In the non-TTL model the batteries for the meter can be depleted if the shutter release is partially depressed when storing in a camera bag.  An on-off switch was added to the TTL M6 to conserve battery power and prevent this from happening.  The Titanium model M6 shown above is a great camera to use.  The great thing about the titanium model, is that is does not get bright marks and is extremely resistant to scratching/marring of the finish.  You can use it over and over and it always looks like new.  The pinkish dull color of the titanium finish and the texture of the Ostrich style leather covering are features that lend durability and also look Beautiful.  The new M6 TTL Titanium is now out in limited numbers, now covered in rich soft brown leather calf skin.
